Claire has already finished 6 weeks! Where is the time going?
Here is a record of her experiences!
Half. Way. There! Whaaaaaat?! I can’t even believe I just typed that! Where did the time go? I still feel like I’m in week one!
Six weeks down and I’m none the worse for wear. Yes, this can be stressful some of the time, and yes, I still have impostor syndrome most of the time, but I’m really grateful to be learning such valuable skills. The pieces are coming together and I’m not nearly as terrified for my future as I was during week one. I know I’ll look back on my time at Savvy Coders with fondness and gratitude. It’s crazy how an accelerated course can totally change your trajectory.
And I’m writing all of this even after we had a pretty bananas week. This was the big week where we were going to finally learn how to structure our code for a Single Page Application. But then, when we tried to serve our code for the very first time…we all encountered a third party software bug. A reeeaaallllyyyy nasty third party software bug that took hours and hours for the instructors and TAs to figure out! But they did it! They worked overtime to rock through it and get us students moving. I’m really bummed this bug cut into class time and caused such a headache for our instructors and TAs, but I’m really impressed at how professionally and diligently they handled it, especially since it was in no way, shape or form their fault.
In a strange way I’m kind of glad we got to experience the bug. Stuff like this happens in the development world and it was so eye-opening to see how much time and effort it can take to troubleshoot something that occurs without warning. I want to extend a huge shout-out to Matt, Cameron, Johan, Ryan and Asma for not only solving the problem, but explaining to us what they were doing and why. I call that a dream team!
